TR 7-27 Fishing the Leech Hatch
It has been raining here. A lot. Enough that there has been a stain on many of our area streams for what seems like an eternity. The stain on the water all but guarantees that fishing will not take place up top except for the terrestrials that have not been washed away by high water.
But, it is not a grim picture at all. Subsurface fishing is fantastic. Fish are feeding heavily on the bottom on pretty much anything you throw their way. Yesterday I re-discovered my love of fishing with leeches and streamers.
Woke up before the sun was out and hit the water with my friend B. After messing around with dry dropper rigs I decided to tie on a leech and that is when things got silly. Fish were stacked on the slow edges below riffles and would smack, roll, and engulf the leech. A great morning and two lessons re-learned. Fish early, fish leeches in cloudy water.
