March 1, 2010
And we're open
The shop is a mess with boxes and new stuff piled all over, but after today it will look great.  Today is our official opening day as it is every year.   In March we are open from 9-5 Monday through Saturday.
The season does not start until March 6th, but right now is time to get excited.  Keep in mind that this is the catch and release season, and that it is NO LONGER barbless only.  We still recommend pinching the barbs down as it is easier to get out of fish, but also much easier to get out of you if you throw an errant cast.
Over the next few days outside of putting flies away, and putting new gear out, we will be snowshoeing streamside watching the midges and stoneflies hatch, taking water temperatures and getting an overall sense of what is happening with our slow melting.
We have ideal melting conditions right now, the ground is not frozen so water that melts percolates into the soil instead of running right into the stream, and the night time brings about another freeze which ensures that there is not too much runoff going into the streams.  We should see high, cold, and slightly stained to crystal clear water for the opener.
Here is to a great 2010 season!  See you all soon.
