Date Night
The holiday weekend is over.  What do you do when your actually have an evening to spend with your wife?
Well go fishing of course!  Geri and I had a date night last night on a tiny, crystal clear, and foot numbing cold stream.
Got in at the conservation easement and saw nothing at all hatching except for a few midges.  The only rises were on the edges of the stream tight to the bank, so we did the only thing rational anglers do in that situation.
We tied on big ugly foam patterns.
Geri fished this hopper (which has been hot lately!) with a simple dropper.

I opted for something uglier:

If I would have rememberd the camera, I would have actual pictures of fish.  Instead you get to hear of the numbers of aggressive fish cruising across the stream to hit our bugs.  They wanted the dry flies more than the dropper.
Plus, in one run I had a sipping rise that ended up being a fish that I just could not control on my 4 weight.  Broke me off after some head shakes that shook the rod to its cork.  It has been a very long time since I have hooked into a fish of that size!
We had so much fun with big visible bugs, that we may just have another date night tonight.  (Yes I am a lucky man, plus a bonus thanks to my older son who volunteered to babysit)
