Another warm muggy night means dry fly activity will be lesser this morning, however the next few nights will be nice and chilly in the low 50s. That should get morning dry fly fishing hopping again.
Today will be a typical mid summer day. Fish early and late, fish scuds and midge larvae below a terrestrial to catch fish. Mid day, find the shade and toss smaller terrestrials and smaller scuds.
Fishing has been great for mid-summer as the water is high and flowing cooler than normal for this time of year.

Less than an inch of rain yesterday afternoon will have larger waters murky, and smaller waters stained to clear today. Fishing scuds and leeches will be great today! A chance of a hatch this evening on the smaller streams, and terrestrial action with crickets and beetles.
It will get increasingly sunny today, so find some shade and concentrate your efforts in the evening for the best results.
Do not be afraid of the rain yesterday, there is little in stream sediment left after last week so there is nothing to blow out badly, the color in the water will come from runoff on land. This also means you may want to avoid any stream that has a flood control dam on it.

UPDATE 5:00 About an inch of rain fell this late afternoon. If we do not get any more tonight we should have clear tributaries by tomorrow morning and larger waters clearing up tomorrow afternoon.
UPDATE 3:30 p.m. Looks like just a bit more than a quarter of an inch of rain in the past hour. Expect a bit of stain tonight that will quickly clear as long as we do not get a bunch of rain late tonight. This storm front should be out of the area quickly.
UPDATE 2:45 p.m. Currently raining outside. Should be a short storm with no major accumulation. We will keep you posted.
Cloudy and chance of rain, especially tonight. It does not look like it shold be enough to muddy up the streams again, especially as there are no major sediment deposits in the streams anymore. Overall water is in great shape, high and stained to clear area wide.
Look for fishing to be good in the morning and evening as it has been this August. We have had cream midges, blue winged olives, micro caddis, and a handful off small cream colored mayflies hatching when the sun is off the water.
During the day subsurface fishing with bead head nymphs and scuds has been good, and should be even better with the clouds today.
Due to the high water a few days ago terrestrial fishing is off, but should pick up again soon. Smaller terrestrials are working better than big hoppers, the exception being big foam patterns in black (crickets and cicadias).

Fishing remains good for summertime conditions. Rivers are flush with water and the majority are clear. Fishing is sitll the best at first and last light, however with the cloud cover forecasted tonight the fish should be more comfortable when the clouds are in the sky.
Scuds, nymphs, and streamers sub surface, and terrestrials (especially crickets) on the surface. Mild to light hatch activity in the mornings and evenings.

Fishing remains solid as waters continue to drop and the larger streams clear up. Cooler nights and streams runiing flush with spring fed water have water temperatures much better than normal for mid August.
There are some sparse hatches of small olives, cahills, and micro caddis. Hatches are happening in the early morning and the late evening.
Fish are also feeding incredibly well on the bottom on scuds and other nymphs with a bit of color to them, as well as midge larvae.
Right now is also time to fish terrestrials. Many of the hoppers and ants were washed away by the flood water, but crickets and cicadas are still super abundant so try a darker bodied hopper or cricket pattern.
Streamers and leeches have been great, especially on water that sill has a slight stain to it.

The larger streams are still running cloudy, while the tributaries and smaller waters are stained to clear. Fishing on these smaller waters have been fantastic! On some, we have seeen hatches of olives and small cahills, as well as cream midges and micro caddis. Fish are also eating scuds and smaller (18-20) thin bodied nymphs.
Nighttime temperatures have been in the mid to high 50's which means water temperatures are way down. That fact coupled with the water churning through the spring means much better than average summer water temperature.
Leeches and streamers continue to be good as fish are aggressive after high water.
The streams have all flushed out and bankside vegetation pushed down. A great time to wade along the shore!
