Things are really starting to click in the Driftless!
We saw significant numbers of craneflies yesterday, as well as tan and black caddis. A rainy day bonus olive hatch also came off.
Despite light rain all day yesterday, our streams are clear and flowing very well. Water temps are in the 50s and fish are feeding in both the runs, and the riffles now.
Caddis, craneflies, generic mayflies, and smaller foam flies are working on the surface.
Subsurface cranefly larvae, pheasant tails, and anything gray to brown with a thicker profile (caddis and cranefly larvae) as well as midge larvae and orange soft hackles are doing the trick.

Cloudy and drizzly today. A needed break from the high sun in the sky.
Caddis have been hatching, and fish have started to move up into the riffles to feed. A foam pattern with a small dropper in the riffles has been very effective.
Subsurface flies have been best in smaller sizes 16-20 and fished slowly in the deeper pools and lunker structures.
Streamers and leeches will be very effective today too while the clouds stay overhead.

Tan caddis are starting to show up in numbers and fish are looking up. Midges and crane flies as well as a handful of mayflies and even terrestrials fill the surface bug list.
Subsurface bugs have been more effective in smaller sizes due in part to the bright sun.
waters are crystal clear and temps are in the high 40s to mid 50s.

Warm and sunny weather has the caddis bouncing around and fish looking up!
Caddis dries, smaller foam attractors, ants and beetles are all catching fish on the surface, especially in the deeper runs below riffles.
Subsurface fishing has been solid on scuds and pink squirrels as well as caddis pupae and smaller pheasant tails.
Waters are clear and water temperature is in the high 40s to mid 50s.

Caddis are starting to appear, both black and tan. Subsurface action has been good on pheasant tails and pink squirrels as well as caddis pupae.
We've been catching fish on the surface on smaller foam patterns and have even picked up fish on ants and beetles lately.
Sunny and warm today. Fish will be most active in the shade, and near undercut banks.
Waters are clear and flowing well. Temps are in the low 40s to low 50s.

UPDATE 9:30-- Sun is poking through the clouds. We should see a mix of olives and caddis this afternoon thanks to the sun.
Warmer today, but still cloudy which means the mayflies and midges should be hatching well in the afternoon.
Waters are clear to slightly stained. The rain that hit other areas so heavily mostly missed us. We only received a small amount of rain over the past few days.
Fishing will be best on larger, thick bodied flies in the morning then switching to smaller thin bodied subsurface flies in the afternoon.
If a hatch comes off, it will most likely be olives or midges 16-22.
