July 31 Fishing Report

Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 81. North wind around 6 mph.
We're still stuck in an endless summer and have been since April.  Very low precipitation (Fennimore area creeks received some good rains over the weekend) in our neighborhood mean our creeks remain very low and clear.  Thankfully the weather is a bit mellow this week with every day but Thursday predicted to be in the low 80s with overnights in the low 60s.
Morning is key to good fishing right now.  Get up early, fish like crazy until about 10, then take a break and a siesta.  The last couple hours of the evening and into night can be good too.  Summertime is never a great time for driftless trout fishing, but if you get up a little early, you can still enjoy fish rising to tricos and eating terrestrials on the surface as well as  bit of action subsurface in the riffles on zebra midges and purdygons.
