August 9th Fishing Report
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10am. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Light and variable wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.After yet again another multi year flood event, streams north of town (Timber Coulee, West Fork etc) suffered major flash flooding this weekend that is still being cleaned up as of this morning. There are still bridges closed (the Bloomingdale road on S might be compromised) and debris on some of the smaller roads. Please be cautious out there, or better yet do not try to fish the streams in northern Vernon county!
South of town fared much better. Where there were 6 inches to the north, south of Viroqua only received about 2. This means most of the creeks south of us were clear yesterday and fishing was good.
Today's weather will be tolerable, but the humidity is quite high.
On the fishable water south of town, the menu has not changed much. Terrestrials and smaller, thin bodied nymphs will fish all day long. Tricos are still around, but with the humid an foggy mornings, the bugs are not present in the numbers we get excited about.
